ACS Stop The Bleed

While more than 2.4 million people have now been trained to STOP THE BLEED®, that’s just a start. Our goal is to train 200 million. Why? Because the purpose of the STOP THE BLEED® campaign is to make our nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding. This preparation is being done by raising awareness and teaching people how to learn three quick actions to control serious bleeding.

STOP THE BLEED® is the result of a collaborative effort led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) to bring knowledge of bleeding control to the public. The ACS COT, and specifically the EMS subcommittee with its many collaborative relationships, provided the perfect environment for this program to grow into the critical success that it is today.

Today, the bleeding control curriculum is accomplished with collaboration between The ACS COT, The Hartford Consensus, The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), The committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC), and the NAEMT Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) committee.
