AHA PALS Instructor

An AHA PALS Instructor has the capability to instruct American Heart Association Advanced Pediatric Life Support Healthcare Providers Course as well as the Renewal/Update Course.

American Heart Association PALS is for healthcare professionals who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, transport teams, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care providers.  The goal for PALS is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize & intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, & cardiopulmonary arrest.

In this course, participants will learn:

• Basic Life Support skills covered in AHA BLS
• Differentiate between respiratory distress & failure
• Differentiate between compensated & hypotensive shock
• Recognize & provide early interventions to avoid cardiopulmonary arrest
• Emergency pediatric pharmacology
• Topics in effective team management & communication

AHA PALS Instructor Candidates must accomplish the following tasks:

1. Have attended a class and have a PALS provider card dated at most 1 year prior to instructor course
2. Complete AHA PALS Instructor Essentials exam
3. Successfully complete Instructor course & associated documents with STS faculty
4. Successfully be monitored instructing a course within first six months following instructor course
